The Clarity Diagnostic

A rebrand can't fix a problem you haven't named.

Built for rural health organizations, associations, and advocacy groups whose work is clearer than their communications. The rebrand, the retainer, the messaging offsite: most organizations buy one before they can say, in plain language, why their audience keeps missing them. The Clarity Diagnostic gives you a scored read of exactly that, in about two weeks. You'll leave with a four-layer scorecard, the layer costing you the most, and a clear recommendation for what to do next. Then you decide, with evidence in hand.

What It Is

A measured read you can put on the table.

Most clarity problems get diagnosed by gut feel, in a meeting that ends without a decision. The Diagnostic gives you something you can hold instead. We score your organization across four layers we call the Consistency Stack, which is our name for the things that decide whether people understand you: what you believe, what you say, how consistently you show up, and how you know it's working. You get back a readout showing where you're strong, where you're losing people, and what to address first.

It takes the guesswork out of the first decision and it ends with a clear recommendation. For most organizations, it's the cleanest way to start working with us.

The Deliverable

What actually lands in your inbox.

A written readout, roughly eight to twelve pages, that a board member could read on a plane and follow all the way through.

A four-layer scorecard

Your score on each layer, with the reasoning behind every mark quoted from your own materials. Nothing in it is a matter of taste.

The layer costing you the most

Named, along with what it's costing you, described in your terms. This is usually the part your team argues about, in the good way.

A one-page recommendation

What to do next and at what scope, covering the words and the visual expression both. Sometimes the right move is to wait, and the readout will tell you that too.

The read covers how your organization looks as well as how it sounds. A brand that reads as clear and one that reads as improvised are usually telling you the same thing about the story underneath, and the scorecard treats them as one problem.

For Funded Programs

The Adoption Readiness Diagnostic.

If your organization holds or is pursuing Rural Health Transformation funds, this is the same scored read, scoped to a single funded program and the community it serves. It's the version a funder recognizes on sight.

The deliverable is a scored adoption-readiness assessment with a written readout: whether the people your program was built for understand it, trust it, and will act on it, along with the gaps most likely to stall uptake. It qualifies as technical assistance, and it's scoped tightly enough to be a straightforward first move inside a subaward.

It's also the clearest first step before a larger adoption engagement, because it tells you whether you need one at all.

What It Measures

Take the Diagnostic. What's your score?

01

Foundation

What you believe.

The convictions underneath the work. If the foundation is unclear, everything written on top of it wobbles. We look at whether your organization knows what it stands for and can say it in a sentence.

02

Story

What you say.

The sentences that carry the work into the world. We look at whether your message is coherent enough to be understood quickly, repeated accurately, and summarized correctly by someone, or something, reading on your audience's behalf.

03

Rhythm

How you show up.

Consistency over time. We assess whether your communications arrive with enough regularity and coherence to build belief, or whether they appear in bursts and then go silent for months.

04

Signal

How you know it is working.

The feedback loop. We check whether you have a way to tell that the story is landing, beyond opens and likes, so you can adjust with evidence instead of instinct.

How It Works

From intake to recommendation in about two weeks.

01

Intake

We gather what you already have: current messaging, recent communications, and a short working conversation about where the organization is headed. No long intake forms.

02

The scored read

We assess the four layers of the Consistency Stack and score where you sit on each, with the reasoning behind every mark. The score is a tool for the conversation, not a grade for its own sake.

03

The readout

You receive three things: a four-layer scorecard with the reasoning behind every mark, the single layer costing you the most and what it's costing you, and a one-page recommendation for the next step that fits where you are.

The Investment

Every decision after this one gets easier.

Most organizations spend months on a rebrand or a campaign built on a hunch, and then spend the next year living with it. The Diagnostic replaces the hunch with a scored read of where your story actually stands. The rebrand you don't need, the retainer you're not ready for, the offsite that would have gone in circles: knowing which of those to skip is worth more than the read itself. Whatever you do next, you'll know why you're doing it.

And if the readout doesn't make your next decision clearer, tell us and we'll refund it. A diagnosis is only worth what it changes. That risk belongs with us.

Where It Leads

The diagnosis points to the work.

Every Diagnostic ends with a recommendation. For most organizations, the natural next step is an ongoing retainer: Harvest: Ground, Growth, or Full, scoped to the depth the readout calls for. For others, it is a focused sprint, or the full StoryFoundry Build when the whole communications system needs to be rebuilt properly. The point of the Diagnostic is that you choose your next move knowing exactly why.
